We were lucky to catch up with Lauren Simone recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission as the owner of the Black Luxe Kloset is to help women find the perfect dress to make them feel their best. See, I get it! As women, we go through so many things at once, and society still expects us to show up looking like a model. To make this easier, The Black Luxe Kloset created a solution. The solution is that our emporium breaks down different styles of dresses into a curated collection for a specific occasion.
When my birthday was approaching, I realized that I couldn’t find anything that made me feel my best. So many of the popular styles weren’t flattering for a woman without a BBL (Just being honest). The Black Luxe Kloset is a solution for everyday women like me.
For example, we recognize that everyone looks for a dress for their birthday. So we curated a selection of dresses that are complete show-stoppers for any birthday girl. Another example: You were invited to a nice after-five outing with coworkers and needed a chic and classy dress. We have a collection for that too.
We take the hassle of searching through pages and pages of dresses and provide you with something that makes shopping online easy!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
At night, I am an entrepreneur; by day, I am an Associate Manager in Diversity Recruitment for my company. I love the space I work in, and I love to engage with talented candidates across the U. S.
My entrepreneurship journey began in 2016 when I was let go from my job. I saw this as a problem and an opportunity to do something independently. So, at the top of 2017, I formally started the L. Simone Company LLC. The initial services of L. Simone Company included website and graphic design. I still provide those services today via LSC Public Relations. In addition to LSC Public Relations, I expanded my business offerings to an online e-commerce brand for women’s clothing called L. Simone Co.
After almost three years in business, I decided it was time to update and refresh my online presence to something more sophisticated and reflective of where I was. So, I rebranded my boutique to be niche specific and created a solution called The Black Luxe Kloset. The Black Luxe Kloset provides women of all curvatures dresses through curated collections for any occasion.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
One lesson I learned early in my entrepreneurship journey is to stop focusing on the follower count and focus on providing my followers value! In this line of business, everyone is trying to sell something to everyone. So if you want your followers to support your business and buy your products, they must believe in your “Why.”
I encourage new business owners to pivot their focus to creating niche-specific and strategic content. Only hop on some trends that respond to your customer’s needs. Stay in your lane and have tunnel vision. My favorite applications to use for social media creation are CapCut, and I am constantly on TikTok. These apps bring life to my videos, pictures, and other content.
In addition to tunnel vision, get serious about your brand. Stay consistent with your branding and marketing. Consistency with your brand will make your business more recognizable while building trustworthiness for a strong sense of community on social media.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
If you are someone who has a product or service, you have to be in the business of serving people. Serving people is a ministry no matter the product or service. What sets me apart is that I truly enjoy connecting with people and making a difference. I believe this is part of my purpose and God’s will for my life. I pride myself on giving the BEST customer service before and after each transaction. Every interaction and every sale, I am thankful and my customers know it. Carrying a strong sense of gratitude allows people to see the light of God in all that I do personally and professionally. I aspire to be a blessing!
