Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Lauren Shaia, and I take great pride in being the visionary behind Brooklyn Dipped, a dessert catering and event servicing company. My passion for cooking and baking was instilled in me by my Lebanese and Syrian Brooklyn-born grandmothers, who passed down their cherished recipes and traditions.

After obtaining a degree in Finance from Siena College, I discovered the therapeutic benefits of cooking and often delighted my colleagues with sweet treats. Although event planning had always intrigued me, the necessary experience eluded me. However, after receiving requests for more of my chocolate-dipped strawberries following a friend’s bridal shower, I realized the demand for my talents.

In 2014, Brooklyn Dipped was born, initially offering an array of chocolate-dipped items. Over the past nine years, we have evolved into a full-service dessert catering and event servicing company. Our team takes care of every detail of your event, while you relax and enjoy the experience. Our rental options range from grass walls, flower walls, circle and square walls, pedestals, rentals, centerpieces, and balloon arches. Whether its your wedding, child’s first birthday or grandmother’s 90th, we can take care of it all.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

Brooklyn Dipped did start as a side gig. It took me a while to make the jump to leave corporate America. At first I started with chocolate dipped treats. After, we evolved based on demand. Cakes and Cookies were in high demand and dessert tables were becoming the big trend. We decided to expand the business and maximize on the opportunity at hand.

Any advice for managing a team?

A successful team requires a successful leader. With the proper training , experience and guidance, your team will enjoy the work and always put their best foot forward. You also have to listen to the team in where there is room for improvement. Communication has to be a 2 way street.
