Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Rich. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lauren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
I don’t do cookie-cutter. I make magic.
Oftentimes, designers will niche down into one specific style or service. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this approach if it works for you!
However, I like to expand my creativity by being open to new aesthetics and challenges. Since every client is different, I want to carry that distinction through their entire brand so it finally feels like them. I like to call it “leaning into your weirdness” because you might as well be invisible if you’re not standing out.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started my business in 2016 as a hand lettering and sign business to stay at home with my son. Today, LRC is a full-service brand + web design, copywriting, and illustration agency for photographers who need help showcasing their magic. I’m super grateful also to have a team of 4 crazy talented humans who blow me away with each project!
What sets me apart from others and what I’m most proud of is always staying true to myself and not apologizing for it. It took me years to realize that I’m not for everyone, and that’s okay. My mission is to help others, especially my clients, understand this for themselves.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
For many years, I did white label design for another agency in addition to booking my own clients. But in the early spring of last year, I reached the point of burnout. So, I decided to take a sabbatical from the industry to recoup.
Around the same time, I decided to stop working as a white label designer indefinitely. I’ve made many pivots in my business, but this was by far the best decision I could have made.
Instead of burning the candle at both ends nonstop, today, I can finally focus on giving 100% to the people I’ve dreamed of working with all along.

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
While on my sabbatical, I spent time rebranding my business from the ground up. For years, I had previously looked to other designers as an example of how to model my business, so it took me months to create something that finally felt like me.
One day, while watching one of the Harry Potter films for the 934th time, an idea popped into my head. If you know me personally, you know I am a huge Potterhead. Harry Potter is one of those series that brings me comfort. Every read and every watch feels like coming home. And that’s exactly how I want my ideal clients to feel when they experience my brand.
So, I brought little hints of one of my favorite things into my brand so it felt nostalgic, magical, but most importantly, like me. And now, people remember my brand because they connected with me through this shared interest.
I’ve since carried this concept over into my client projects. I help them find and identify something about themselves that sets them apart while also connecting with their ideal clients.
