We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lauren Pulciano. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lauren below.
Alright, Lauren thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I was fortunate enough to jump into post production when I started with my first gig as a Post Production Assistant on the hit series, Will and Grace. Speeding up the learning process is different for everyone. I have been working back to back gigs since I graduated university with a Film and Digital Media degree. Moving up in a time where a major pandemic and the WGA and SAG strikes is in play affects the game as well. Numerous people had no work for months and no time to improve knowledge and gain expertise and add to that resume. I believe to excel in my field is consistency and hard work.
Lauren, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Post Production oversees and facilitates all the editing and all cuts that go to the directors, producers, studios, and networks, along with notes from all the previous mentioned. We deal with numerous technical specifications and color correction, online sessions, all VFX, all stock footage/graphics/ fonts, music and score, voice overs, ADR, loop group, and credits. In addition, we deal with clearance issues, main and opening titles, delivery schedules, sound mixing, and international versions all while staying in budget with accounting.
I am happy to be a part of such an important process of film making that often goes unnoticed.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I immensely enjoy story telling and I am living my dream of joining other story tellers in taking a script and making it real. It is most rewarding when you hear strangers compliment your work without even telling them what you do.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Society can support the film creative community by attending movies in person and donating to indie films who are always looking for supporters in producing short films, for example.
