We were lucky to catch up with Lauren Papich recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think it takes grit, the ability to fall down and get back up, and a whole lot of grace.
I had to make a really tough decision of staying comfortable and losing by working a dead end position, or taking a MAJOR risk and potentially winning with opening my business and branching out an hour away with a handful of clients following me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 24-year-old hairstylist and business owner. I rent a space out of the cutest little salon in the Springfield district in Jacksonville, Florida. I have been in the industry for close to 3 years now, but I was raised in hair and beauty as my grandmother styled hair in the 60’s and 70’s.
I have worked through the deepest valleys of covid, and been in an unfavorable work environment for 1yr+. Overcoming the naysayers and the negativity has been so tough, but so liberating.
I specialize in lightener applications (Blonding) and color corrections. I also offer keratin treatments, hair cutting, and have extensive experience and knowledge in blowouts. I pride myself on offering quality work while delivering transformative effects, or maintaining a desired look. Keeping these services accessible, I have express services that are budget friendly, and I offer AfterPay.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After coming to the understanding that my boundaries were not being heard, my bereavement and mourning meant nothing, and mothering came second to the growth of a pre-existing business, I knew I needed to make a change. I didn’t want to cry myself to sleep anymore due to misery I felt working for someone else.
I decided to work for myself. To value myself. To value my child. I began working on a part time schedule, and signed a lease with Kindred Salon + Mercantile.
I worked day in and day out for marketing, accounting, pricing things by the minute and gram, all while juggling being a mother.
I am proud to say almost a year later, my business is booming, and my success has multiplied in more than one way.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth, client loyalty, and the revolving door of the military community.
