We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren Ortega a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren , thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?

In the early start of my career, I was privileged in high school to be able to attend high-level design classes. When I decided to go to art school, I knew that I was taking a risk because I was not able to afford to go to college coming from a low to middle class family going to college was a luxury and attending art school seemed impossible.

When I attended sva I know that I was determined to help others students like myself, to get access to affordable design education and help other young creatives. I started the struggle of a designer to provide solutions to other creatives and have open discussions about the struggles they faced in the creative industry and provide solutions on how to deal with these personal struggles.

Creating inclusive design education for students of all different backgrounds oregardless of age, gender, or income.

Lodesigns studio is a brand and web design studio, we provide design services from packaging design, e-commerce web design and visual brand identity. We create bold brand identities in order for them to stand out from the competition. Our main clients are related to art, tech and health and wellness industry. As creators we take pride in using design to make a more inclusive environment.

We also take pride in content creation in providing design resourced, podcasts, and guides that showcase our expertise in our community.

One client we are recently proud of is for the curve catwalk. A plus size dance studio based in London creating an inclusive space for dancers of all sizes making dance vibrant and exciting for all.

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)

I love nfts, I think it’s a great way for digital artist to provide more value to their work. With the future of ai and crypto currency I think this is a revolutionary way for digital designers to create exclusive work bringing value to those who care about it.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

All my funding for my business has been through me. Interning at several creative agencies for the past three and a half years working remotely in school and at work was very challenging, It was very stressful but that determination has inspired me to grow my business and find other ways to provide funding through grants, loans and other investors.
