We recently connected with Lauren Najar and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
The worst investment that I have done in my business so far has been hiring a business and marketing coach before my business truly required it. I don’t think hiring a business or marketing coach is a mistake at all, I worked with one beforehand but something to specify that I hired someone for a marketing strategy that I wasn’t quite ready for. It is nothing against this particular coach or anything she had taught me. I was a brand new business wanting to run before I truly had my legs underneath me. I was attracted to this coach because she was not only making a bunch of money, but was doing all of the things I thought I needed in my business at the time. My business had made a nice chunk of money within three months of starting and I wanted to go faster. I hired this coach to take me quickly to the next level and I crashed and burned and then barely ran my business or sold any services for a good year afterwards. It was definitely an expensive lesson learned but I’m happy I learned it. It definitely has paved the way with how I invest in help or outsource help and I’m happy it wasn’t too expensive of a lesson to where I couldn’t financially recover from it.
Lauren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started my business in 2018 and initially wanted to become a social media manager. I wanted to work for myself for so long and I tried so many different business ideas until this point and nothing really stuck. This seemed different. My professional background is in banking and I have a degree in finance so I’ve had a business mindset for quite some time but wanted to somehow break into the online business space and I thought being a social media manager would do that. I quickly learned that becoming a social media manager was not something I wanted to do and I wanted to help businesses with business coaching and consulting.
My business has had many pivots in the last five years but what I am known for is lead generation and marketing. I help my clients solve the issues of “where are my leads”, “how do I know what a good lead is” and “how to convert leads to paying clients”.
What sets me apart from others is I have perfected building relationships and community and use that as part of my strategy. It is one of the core foundations of business and that is to build community. You can have all of the fancy funnels or strategies in place but building relationships is going to be an amazing foundation.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing your clientele is building relationships BEFORE they become a client. Giving that prospect or lead a great experience from the moment they land on your social media pages or the moment that they meet you is key. Client experience starts before the client even asks for your brochure or sales page.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that you have to achieve things by a certain time whether it be to get married, have kids, have a successful business, readch a certain income level – that a certain level of success had to be achieved by X age. I definitely struggle with this a little bit to this day when I want to hit certain milestones but life keeps reminding me that there is no such thing as too late or too soon. There is your timeline and that is all that matters.
