We recently connected with Lauren Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking risk is important for anything that truly matters if you want your dreams to come true. I took a risk when I bought my bus that is my current home. It flipped how I live life, in the best way. There are challenges in anything you choose to do in life. I knew that I wanted to create art and share my craft with others whiling seeing the world. I knew that getting this bus would give me that outlet to make this happen. I have learned the impact of having water, understanding how much I use. Knowing how to work on the bus. And so many more things I have gotten the pleasure of learning because of this life style. I also am able to let my creative flow more naturally. I think taking risk is important for everyone to do in life. It’s a way of taking your life in your own hands even if something is scary. It sometimes can be the best thing. For me this really was the best change and risk for my life.

Lauren , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I love knowing the whole processes of anything I do. This means digging my own clay, to digging crystals, that we then cut, shape, polish and make into jewelry. Along with creating a frame for painting a canvas. I think for any craft there is so much to learn and to me it’s important to understand how something is made to further understand it. For the art I make when I am working in pottery, I tend to make miniature pots, fairy houses. I love the idea of creating little worlds and getting imagination to run in my mind and life but also to awaken that in others as well. When I am painting I like to paint my dreams a lot. This helps me to deeper understand myself but also really connect with people as well. I have sold paintings where they had the same dream as me. I have made incredible connection through art. This is why I love doing what I do. I think it’s important for us to get to share and connect in this way. It is healing.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It’s rewarding when I make a true connection when someone buys something from me. Or when someone makes art from a class of mine. This shows how they can heal and work through things. This is what drew me to art myself. I think sharing our knowledge is the most important thing. It could change someone’s life for the better. This is something that is so rewarding to me. It wipes away any doubt I may have. It keeps me going, it makes my sad tears turn happy everytime.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I truly go with the flow. I listen to my intuition. This is something that some don’t understand . Most creatives do. It is that inner voice. I trust it more than anything else. It has kept me safe, it has brought me to the best friends and important people in my life. It keeps the magic of creating alive. I don’t always know where I’ll be. But I do know that I am guided and protected no matter what.
