We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I get asked about the origin of my business name often. When I started my business in 2012 and had always collected all things “mustache” themed just because it was something that brought me joy. When I was deciding on a business name I was thinking of a stash of things, a stash of photos, etc. Welcome to the word MyStache – a little bit of mustache, a little bit of stash / collection. “MyStache” was was named after “a stash or collection of photos”.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
An introverted homebody (photographer) walks into a room full of extroverted people to capture photographs of everyone having the time of their lives. Yep, that is my full time day job. Hi, I’m Lauren – your friendly wedding day 3rd wheel.
I am a mama of 2 kiddos, military wife, dog wrangler, outdoor enthusiast, and capturer of all things love. I started photography when I was 10 years old; I was always the “friend with the camera”, taking memories of birthdays, holidays, and events. That grew into a business part time at first as we grew our family, and then went full-time once I realized – this could really be my life!
From our first inquiry to when you receive your final gallery, I have your back. Whether it is awkward dances moves, bad dad jokes, or doing anything to get those natural smiles, I make sure that every client has a fun experience. Although it may seem that I focus mostly on wedding photography, I offer all things family as well – whether you are expecting a new addition, updating family portraits, or plan a date to dress up fancy with the one you love; I will make sure to make it an adventure, and a photo experience you’ll remember for a lifetime. Specializing in natural, true to life color, bright & moody feeling images.
Making memories permanent since 2012.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
As many of my amazing clients know from me sharing a little on social media – I am somewhat of a medical mystery. I have a few different illnesses that I struggle with daily: I have Endometriosis, POTS, as well as IBS – which cause me nausea, uncontrollable heart rates, and extreme stomach pains. Sometimes I may look or seem lower energy than I should be – if you see a photo of me getting an IV (weekly), or see me casually drinking a Pedialyte and eating a specific snack every time you see me; don’t be worried, that is just Me.
I always give my clients every last bit of energy I could give to ensure everyone the same amazing experience during their sessions. I always overprepare for any type of situation so that I can make sure that I am at my best that I can be, and sometimes I even need to give a bride a Pepto tab; but don’t you worry – my emergency kit travels with me daily.
Although I struggle silently daily, I wouldn’t trade my job for anything else. I get to see true love in every form, I get to capture memories clients can keep forever, I get to to boost self-confidence, and I get to live through other peoples love.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with all my clients on social media after I have sent their photo gallery, either on social media or through text. I root them on with big life changes, I reach out when they need advice or a virtual hug, and I watch their lives continue to grow and flourish as the years go by, thankful that I was one small part of their big life! Sometimes I send small gifts or prints to clients I have built close connections with, and I always support them on any new step in their lives.
