We were lucky to catch up with Lauren Grant recently and have shared our conversation below.

Lauren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard

WellCapped is America’s first wig rental subscription company. In the fast-paced world we live in, personal style is ever-evolving. Buying a high-quality wig can be a significant investment, and not everyone is ready to commit to one style. That’s where WellCapped comes in – we provide a variety of high-quality wigs at a fraction of the purchase cost, offering our customers the freedom to experiment and change their look as they please without the prohibitive expense.
We understand that for many, a wig is not merely a fashion accessory, but a tool for self-expression, confidence, and sometimes, a means to cope with personal challenges such as medical conditions. Moreover, the traditional wig market has often overlooked the importance of personalization and convenience. We’re challenging this by leveraging data to better understand our customers’ preferences and predict what they’ll love next, creating a uniquely personalized experience. We aspire to become the ‘Netflix of wigs,’ where finding your next wig style is as easy and exciting as discovering your next favorite show.

Lauren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

WellCapped is actually a family business – my cousin (more like sister) Shante Frazier, CEO of WellCapped, started the company through an accelerator program by pitching the idea of renting wigs and making it into a business. I was working full time for a consulting firm at that time however I started a blog called myLObudget, that catered to women looking for travel and fashion deals at discounted prices. I always believed in representing brands that were bigger than me and take great pride in helping brands achieve their highest goals and even beyond that. With WellCapped, it was a no brainer to join the team and I haven’t looked back since!

At WellCapped, we’re not just in the business of renting wigs; we’re in the business of empowering individuals to express themselves freely and confidently without the hefty price tag. All of our wigs arrive to our customers pre-plucked, tinted, glueless, styled and have a built in adjustable band for each customer to make sure their unit fits to their liking. In essence, WellCapped is about freedom, expression, and personalized experience. It’s about breaking down barriers and creating a world where everyone can access the style they desire, when they desire it. That’s the ‘why’ behind our business, and we’re committed to making this vision a reality.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?

There would be no WellCapped without our customers – not only do they keep our business going, but they keep me going by making sure I can provide the very best look for every special moment in their lives. Our members are family and we love to treat them as such. We have Facebook group with our members that we use to vote on the next WellCapped wig or more recently, working out together via Zoom. The WellCapped community is one of a kind and we are so grateful for all of our members.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?

In November 2022, we were accepted into Amazon’s black accelerator program! This has opened up many doors for us and we are so grateful for the opportunity. What makes things slightly difficult is that there isn’t a rental option on Amazon however wher there’s a will, there’s a way! We will introduce our buy back program this fall and allow customers to buy a wig from us from Amazon that we will buy back from them when they are ready.
