Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Glasco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lauren, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I currently work in Human Resources, the Talent Acquisition space more specifically, and I review hundreds of resumes a day. I realized that this is the area most people need help with when job searching and applying for jobs. When a person gets rejected after applying to a position, most times it’s due to a poorly written resume. Most of the time it’s not because that person isn’t qualified (which could be the case), but I’ve realized that some people have a difficult time translating their background and experience into concise words. Once that thought clicked for me, I wanted to be able to help more people and reach a larger audience – that’s when Legendary Resumes & Career Services was born! A poorly written resume shouldn’t stand in the way of a person’s ability to find the career of their dreams. Job searching is hard enough and can be time-consuming, if I can help take some of that stress away from job seekers, I want to be able to do that.
I’ll be honest, the first thing I did was Google “how to start a business”. I researched how to establish my LLC and get an EIN, which are super important steps in starting a business. The next step for me was to think about the services I wanted to offer, develop my processes for each service, create my logo/website and social media handles. I wanted to make sure that once I launched my business, people had a clear idea of the type of business this was and the services I offer.
Lauren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In my last year of college, about 9 years ago, I started helping people with re-writing and revamping their resumes. I was a Human Resource Development major and naturally, I found myself being the “go-to” when people started applying for careers out of college. During the pandemic, I started really becoming serious about helping people due to many businesses having to close and employees being laid off. That’s when I realized that I needed to turn this into an actual business.
I currently work in Human Resources as a Talent Acquisition Partner where I recruit and hire top-tier talent for various positions, so I review hundreds of resumes a day. I have written and edited hundreds of resumes and career documents for college graduates and diverse professionals at multiple levels across various industries.
I founded Legendary Resumes & Career Services after growing tired of seeing high-caliber candidates being looked over for positions that they deserved to be considered for due to not being able to translate their experience and skills into their resumes. At Legendary Resumes & Career Services, we offer a number of services to help you land job interviews, such as resume and LinkedIn audits, resume revamps, LinkedIn profile optimization, interview preparation, and salary negotiation tips.
I’m proud to be able to serve others and I want potential clients to know that I work very hard to ensure that they are happy with their career documents and that I have every intention of helping them to succeed in landing the role they deserve. It is my goal to help my clients obtain a career that allows them to make an unforgettable impression on others, and to become a “legend” in their careers. Becoming a legend means finding your particular niche, your calling, following through with it, and having the ability to inspire others around you. It is my mission to help others be able to embody the spirit of being legendary.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I would say that I’m still in the process of building my audience on social media. Social media is a huge part of marketing your business and as hard as it is sometimes, you have to show up for yourself and your business every day. The first part of building your audience on social media is to establish a strategy and identify what tools/platforms work best for your business. Depending on your business, some platforms will work better than others. The next part would be to start creating content to post. This is the piece of social media that is always changing as new trends are set all the time. Making sure to stay up to date on trends and stay consistent. The last piece of advice I would say is to engage with your followers. When people comment on a post and slide up on your story, you want to engage with them. Those people may be potential clients or know someone that may be a potential client.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been referrals. I have clients that see results and they tell their family/friends, and then it just goes from there. Social media has also played a big part in growing my clientele as well. I’ve had clients who have found me on social media from a post I made.
