Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Farrell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lauren, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I would love to be remembered as a leader who truly valued and understood their team. In one of my many notebooks where you daydream about the type of culture you would like to create, I wrote, “I want to have the type of company people can’t wait to work for and those who do literally skip to work”. Work is so much a part of our lives, I think people deserve to like if not love when they do. People deserve to be happy and are owed a fair work/life balance. Far too often people are stuck in careers in which they are not valued, heard or understood.
I’ve also in my own careers witnessed various types of leadership and how culture and values trickle down the chain of command in both positive and negative ways.
I’d also like to be be remembered for breaking the rules and not being afraid to take risks especially in a male-dominated industry with few female success stories so far.
Outside of work, I’d like to be remembered for always being a great listener who made people feel good.
Lauren, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are in the business FUN! For us, life and all of its moments are the party and we encourage everyone to enjoy it along side us. The idea for Jooicy Tits Vodka (yes, you read that right….pronounced “juicy”) came about as a joke in college. I market tested the name for eight years asking groups of men, women and bartenders etc. if they had or had ever had Jooicy Tits Vodka. 9/10 times people smiled, laughed and wanted to buy bottles, t-shirts and more so I knew I was onto something and that I had to figure out how to get into the liquor business. A 180 from the fashion industry (I previously had a handbag brand for nine years) the liquor business has lots of its own unique rules but nothing I couldn’t handle or figure out. The creativity behind creating a brand is also one of my favorite things to tackle and I love to think about how a brand or product can be different.
We’ve been in the marketplace since July 2022 and are available for sale in bars and liquor stores in Florida, soon to be our home state of New Jersey and online we can ship direct-to-consumer in 32 states. 10% of profits from all bottles and merchandise sold goes to breast cancer charities doing amazing things.
Whether sipping on a vodka cocktail featuring our original 6X distilled Jooicy Tits Vodka or sporting one of our soft t-shirts with one of trademark sayings (for example “get tit-faced™ ) we love to bring a smile to people’s fasces and brighten their day!
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
We were in Key West on a business trip checking in on current accounts and wanting to land new ones. One bar in particular is a local hangout, off the beaten path with an adorable bar, outdoor seating area and liquor store. We kept missing the decision maker and after dinner one night (and a few drinks) we popped in to see if he was there and he was. However, we were unprepared, had no marketing materials and gave one of the worst pitches ever and I knew it. When we got home, I said to my boyfriend, we have to go back…that was our worst pitch ever! We need to be honest and take ownership and try again. So back we went. The decision maker laughed at our return and honesty when we acknowledged how terrible our earlier pitch was. He understood we had a long several days selling and gave us the benefit of the doubt. He took the product on and hasn’t looked back since. We’ve had multiple reorders and a funny story to laugh about.
The point of the story is there is always room for a second chance and to take ownership always, but especially in situations where your larger character will shine through. We are all human at the end of the day. I always ask what’s the worst that can happen? If you can live with the result of that answer then it is worth a shot!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being genuine and keeping our word. We also have a fun product that is memorable but I like for people to see the depth behind the brand and the people behind the brand. It can be as simple as meeting someone in the airport who likes our shirts. Depending on the conversation/situation I tell people to DM their address and I will mail them a shirt. People can’t believe we’re willing to do something like that. It’s such a small gesture that means so much and that is what I care about. I like making people feel good and happy!
I also think there are stigmas in this industry and my previous involvement in the fashion industry, Both times I wanted to be nothing like what the stigma was. There is always room for you and there is always room to be different. Ultimately those are the things that will help you stick out as a business owner and as a brand. Don’t be afraid that you have to stick to a current mold or definition. The rules were made to be broken…especially as an entrepreneur!
