We were lucky to catch up with Lauren DiFulvio recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
The biggest challenge to profitability in the photography industry is the invention of the smart phone with the smart camera. These cameras, tablets and the use of editing apps have enabled any individual who owns one to snap a decent photo, edit it and post it online to their satisfaction therefore devaluing the professional photographer and their equipment and expertise.

Lauren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Based out of Cincinnati, Ohio, I’ve been shooting weddings for over 14 years now. After graduation from the College of Mount St. Joseph with a BA in photography, I started documenting weddings of friends and family members to build up my portfolio. Soon after I started my own business and never looked back. I couldn’t be more thankful for where I am now. Every time I shoot a wedding, the excitement and adrenaline takes over and I feel such a passion for my work. I can’t imagine doing anything else. I love the chaos of a wedding day, the unplanned moments & telling every couples story in a way that reflects them. I’m organized and have an eye for detail and try to be a blast to work with! I’m here to help you with any questions you may have along the way, figure out that timeline thing & ease your mind so you can enjoy the best day of your life!
Have you ever had to pivot?
I am in the process of learning videography right now actually. I think this is a good step in my career as it will give me more opportunities and a wider variety of clientele.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Don’t think about it just post it. Reach out to anyone who’s pregnant, just had a baby, is getting married and offer them free photos in exchange to post them on your page. Work at it and keep going. If you want anything bad enough you will work hard enough to get it.
