We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauren Davidson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have loved music and the arts my entire life. My dad was a singer songwriter and some of my earliest childhood memories are him playing his guitar and singing songs to me before bedtime. I always say I could sing before I could speak. So in some way I think I always wanted to be a performer and have a career in the arts even if I didn’t understand what that meant. My junior year of high school I played Sally Bowles in Cabaret and starting exploring the option of auditioning for theatre programs in college and that’s when it fully clicked and I fully committed to a future in the arts.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After moving to NYC to pursue a career on broadway I quickly found my music and my voice. There’s so much in the industry you can not control but writing songs was my way of taking control of my art and thoughts and work. I never felt more authentically myself and when I started putting out my own music in 2015 I just felt this rush of “success” and self worth. Since then I’ve released countless singles, 4 EPs and have toured the country. I’ve opened for some of the biggest names in country music including Willie Nelson, Jordan Davis and Carly Pearce to name a few as well as performed at the NYC crème of the crème – Madison Square Garden,

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being an artist for me is connecting with other people. My music is wildly personal and when someone can relate and heal through my songs the way I do there is nothing more rewarding than that!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
This industry is a constant pivot! From the evolution of technology and social media to constantly building and rebuilding contacts and then on the artistry side experiencing life – everything from a global pandemic to a breakup- I’m constantly pivoting or more importantly learning and evolving.
