Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Bledsoe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lauren, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
I have a bunch of stories that I tend to look back on, but the one that stands out to me is about a client that did not want to come to therapy. They were a minor and had struggled with an eating disorder for quite some time. Through working through their resistance to therapy and discovering this person’s need for perfectionism and control, we were able to make significant improvement and get them back to a level of healthy eating and well balanced lifestyle. Towards the end of our sessions, I had learned that the client had become an advocate for mental health in their community. Seeing them go from being resistant to therapy to becoming someone who valued mental health and encouraging others to work on their mental health made me incredibly proud and honored.

Lauren, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I became a therapist because I have had my own mental health struggles. Going through my own struggles gave me empathy for others who are struggling and I was able to learn how to help people through those struggles.
I help people who are feeling overwhelmed by life or having a hard time overcoming something that they are facing. I want to help by listening to what you’re struggling with and provide you with skills to combat those struggles. I provide a non-judgmental and safe space for you as we work through your struggles. I work with Perfectionism, Depression, Anxiety, Body Image/Self-Esteem, Stress Management, Family Concerns, Motivation, Life Changes, and Overall Wellness. In our sessions, we will work together as equals based on mutual trust and respect. I will work with you to seek out creative resources to help you live your best life.
I truly care about my clients and make sure to provide a comfortable environment for them. I am very passionate about what I do.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I would choose this same profession and still choose to open up my own practice. I absolutely love what I do. While it may not be a huge money maker, I enjoy going into work each day and having a therapeutic relationship with my clients. I love being able to help them in their time of need and be a safe space for them.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The two things that have helped me the most in building my clientele have been referrals from previous and/or current clients and networking with other professionals in my field. Majority of my clients have been referred to me. When it comes to other professionals in your field, it is important to stay in contact with them and form a genuine working relationship.
