We were lucky to catch up with Lauren Bissett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I don’t know where I would be without the bumps along the way that have led me to pursue the business and dream I am currently pursuing as a full-time florist. While I’ve had so many incredible jobs and roles (not directly related to the floral industry) previous to being a florist, I’ve had a handful of experiences that made me question my worth, my confidence, and my ability to dream. Flash forward to the current day, my mission is not only to bring light and joy through floral design, but it is to make others feel seen, celebrated, and supported. My mission is to not only make my brides + their families feel seen + celebrated through my designs but to also make every person I come in contact with experience the same thing.
It’s been such an honor to get to be on the journey of this business of mine. I’ve always been someone who is super personable and eager to learn other’s stories more one-on-one. My faith is also a huge part of what has guided me throughout my business and what a joy it is to get to show others not just the beauty of florals, but the beauty of Jesus throughout it all!
Lauren, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been so passionate about florals, but it wasn’t until high school that I realized it was something I was actually good at creating and working with. It wasn’t until the end of college that I realized that it could actually be a career I invested my time and money in down the road. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2020 with a Bachelors in Editorial + Advertising/PR in Journalism. I worked for a variety of magazines, and agencies and while the marketing experience I gained throughout was essential, I just knew there was more out there for me. I started my floral business with the incredible support of my previous full-time job, and of course my friends, family, and incredibly supportive husband and was amazed at how many brides trusted me, and inquired for me to take on florals for their wedding day. I eventually took the leap to leave my full-time job, and while it was terrifying to close the door to the “traditional life/9-5 job,” I was so thankful to receive such a flood of inquiries shortly after being able to dedicate 100% of my career to my business.
I’m most proud of the way I treat my clients – I take the time to get to know them, grab coffee with them, and make every detail perfect in every quote, because I know how much of an honor it is to play a role in such a memorable, beautiful day of theirs!
Outside of my floral business, you can most likely find me at a coffee shop, wandering around the Dallas Farmer’s Market, traveling, and spending time with my friends + church community.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Something I’ve learned throughout my experience is that these relationships I’ve created don’t have to end! Most of the relationships I’ve made from my brides have actually turned into some sweet friendships, and my goal is to never lose that personable touch to my brand. I love not only staying in touch with my clients on social media to witness their milestones, but I love catching up with them in person post-wedding, getting to hear about their newlywed life, and continuing to grow that relationship!
This industry, and starting a business in general can feel so lonely, but I’ve been learning to prioritize community within my industry, and making my clients feel seen is something I always want to continue.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Something that has helped me personally grow my clientele is by allowing my clients to know more about who I am and my story. This often means being a little more open on social media and sharing how I’ve gotten to where I am today in my career and dream, or meeting face-to-face with potential clients to allow them to really feel that they can trust me!
