We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lauren Banks. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lauren below.
Lauren, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Through creative endeavors I want my legacy to be one of positive energy, an escape from the dark and ordinary, and most importantly trusting your instincts. It is critically important to follow ones dream, even when it’s unconventional. We must be fearless, risk takers, and unafraid to fail. So often we don’t allow ourselves enough grace when our path takes a detour.

Lauren, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a native Chicagoan who relocated to Los Angeles after college. As a theater major my initial purpose was to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. As a creative release I began designing crystal and gemstone jewelry. I have always had an affinity for crystals and their many healing properties. Eventually this hobby became a business with the support of family and friends. I have had pop up events in Chicago and Los Angeles, along with participating in local art events. To date my biggest accomplishment has been having the opportunity to partner with Macy’s in selected stores.
The pandemic was tough on my business like so many others. Several on site opportunities were cancelled and sales were impacted. As a result, I focused more on social media and online sales. Even with this change, sales are still less than before. I understand it’s the times that we’re living in. Like other small businesses, I am constantly reevaluating products, customers and the sales environment.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I reached to friends for advice on building content and the use of different platforms. I formed a partnership to work on content and customer engagement. Social media is trial and error. You have to have patience.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Local and national organizations that promote small women owned businesses; especially women of color.
