Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Anderson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lauren, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
I think what I bring to the photography/videography industry is a positively twisted point of view. I am more interested in helping a person express who they are in their wildest imagination vs. who they feel they need to present to the world.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in the Ohio suburban trap with nothing but dreams to get out of it (I’m still in Ohio, but being older now, I definitely don’t feel as trapped).
I got into my industry by taking a class in high school. Honestly, I only took it because I admired the teacher. He was just an all-around fun guy who really knew how to get us to think deeply about art and *why* we wanted to create. I really owe it to him for instilling this life long passion for photography in me.
I like to think my personal approach to photography allows people to indulge in their fantasies and escape the mundane every once in a while. God knows I have needed that outlet in my life!
I am so proud that my business is completely my OWN. I built it from nothing and it is 100% mine. That feels really good.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
What I had to unlearn is that if you aren’t amazing at something the first time, you should give up.
While I was learning my craft, there were so many times where I just felt stuck and like I wasn’t good enough.
I’d feel like a shoot didn’t go well or that I was terrible at directing, or that I couldn’t figure out this one edit I wanted to be a specific way…
Instead of feeling frustrated, I just remind myself that I’m only human, and that the positive side of feeling I am not good enough means I deeply care about doing my best.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I build my reputation with my market by doing and being exactly what I advertise.
I advertise reliability, openness, and cooperation. I never want a client to feel uncomfortable working with me, or feel judged, or to feel that they can not rely on me to meet deadlines.
Word of mouth is everything, so my motto is to always give the client something good to say about working with me.
