Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Adamski. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lauren , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I own a chiropractic and wellness office called Bump and Beyond which was initially a mobile clinic providing chiropractic services to patients in their homes. My specialty is treating families during the prenatal, pediatric, and postpartum stages. I wanted to cater to moms and babies who may not have had the opportunity to visit a chiropractic office due to time constraints, mobility issues, or the desire to drive to a chiropractic office with a newborn. Apart from mobile services, I also treated patients at the Harmony Collaborative Care office in South Austin on Wednesdays. This facility offers craniosacral therapy, lactation consulting, chiropractic care, and speech therapy services all in one place which is convenient for mothers and their babies. Although I still provide mobile services and treat patients at the Harmony office on Wednesdays, I am thrilled to announce that I have recently opened my own physical office. My main decision-making behind opening a physical location was to create a multidisciplinary clinic focused on treating my moms and babies. We offer chiropractic, postpartum personal rehab, and massage therapy all in a kid-friendly office so moms don’t need to stress about finding childcare. I am so excited to provide a mom-focused wellness center and continue to care for my moms, babies, and full families in Lakeway, Texas.

Lauren , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Our Office, Bump and Beyond Chiropractic and Wellness, specializes in providing comprehensive care to prenatal, pediatric, and postpartum women. Our chiropractic services are designed to ensure that women have a healthy and pain-free pregnancy and a smoother delivery. Did you know that chiropractic care can help reduce labor by up to five hours? We also provide treatment for newborns and kids to address a variety of conditions, including colic, torticollis, latching issues, ear infections, muscle pain, and injuries. Additionally, we offer pediatric wellness care. Our office is also known for its expertise in postpartum diastasis recti core repair. We offer an 8-week fitness program that helps close the separation of the core that occurs with diastasis recti, strengthens the core, reduces low back and pelvic floor pain, and improves poor posture. Our office is kid-friendly, with a playroom to keep kids entertained while their moms receive chiropractic care or participate in our core-specific personal training program. Our office will also offer massage services including a labor prep massage and a postpartum lymphatic drainage massage.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could go back in time and choose my profession, I would choose to be a chiropractor every time. As a child, I always aspired to be a doctor, and I enjoyed being the “doctor” of my friends. I was the one who always had band-aids and could remove splinters. Helping my friends was fulfilling, and I desired to continue doing so as a professional. I had an excellent pediatrician growing up, and I envisioned following in his footsteps. However, during my last year as a pre-med student at Trinity University, I realized that being a medical doctor may not be the best fit for me. I worked night shifts in the emergency room as a medical scribe while in college, and while I enjoyed learning about medicine, I realized I wanted to work in a more holistic wellness practice that would allow me to treat entire families. During that same time, I shadowed a chiropractor and realized that it was the ideal fit for me. I love my job for many reasons, but some of my favorite moments include helping patients who have experienced severe pain become pain-free, assisting children in reaching important milestones, ensuring smooth deliveries for mothers, and completely closing the gap associated with postpartum diastasis recti. It brings me great joy to be able to help families in such meaningful ways, and I feel fortunate to have found a job that allows me to do so.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start?
I was very lucky that I was able to start with a mobile chiropractic office because it helped me being able to open my own practice with very little overhead and start up costs. I had previously purchased a mobile chiropractic table when I was still in school so I was able to use that table to treat all of my patients. I purchased additional belly pillows that also doubled as a boppy pillow so that I could treat both prenatal patients and newborns on a mobile chiropractic table. Most of the start up costs came from purchasing things like the LLC, the charting software and the website domain. I also purchased several hundred dollars worth of things including; a massage gun, lotion, cleaning supplies, face paper for the table and a cupping set. Since I had a low overhead and most of my costs came from gas and the charting software, I was quickly able to become profitable. I was then able to use the money saved by doing home visits as a way to help pay for the start-up costs associated with opening a physical location.
