We were lucky to catch up with Lauran Henderson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lauran thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
One of the best lessons I learned in college was that even though an experience may have been negative you can still learn so much (if not more) along the way.
During culinary school I had the opportunity to intern at a local restaurant. So many aspects of the experience were terrific. Seeing the chef’s work/life balance was eye opening, In that it was not existent. I learned so much of what not to do from his experience and when I shared this with him we were able to have a very open conversation on decisions and regrets he had made.
His experience isn’t rare and is more of the industry standard truthfully. It was one of my biggest driving forces in starting a business that allowed me to focus on work/life balance.
I’ve had trips and stumbles along the way as we all do but am grateful to be in a place where I can prioritize my family while doing what I love.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In the Summer of 2019, I was exploring options of returning to work after staying home with our young children. I wanted something that allowed flexibility as I knew my prior career as a chef didn’t align with our life as a family of four. I prided myself on always making cleaners that helped our house sparkle while also being non-toxic. In addition I had a knack for organizing garages and attics of friends and family.
It was a natural move to help others clean their homes using our all-natural cleaners while helping others create organized, functional spaces. 4 years later and we have grown to include home management, full home organizing and cleaning homes in a pure and thoughtful way.
We are grateful to be surrounded by a community that values non-toxic living and small businesses.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
One of the significant ways we have built our reputation is providing unmatched level services time and time again. We provide personalized services that ensure our clients needs are met in a way many others can not duplicate.
We aim for 95% of our business to be recurring. This allows us the opportunity to build relationships with our homes and families. Allowing us to provide them a higher level of service throughout all seasons of their life.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As a business owner I think we all have that moment when we realize we need to step back a bit to help our business grow. Being in houses full time while helpful wasn’t allowing me to grow the way I needed to. Over the last year I’ve pulled myself out of houses some so I can help EcoFreak in a big picture manner while also maintaining client relationships.
Our hope is to continue to grow and be able to clean more homes in our pure and thoughtful way. While growing our product line of cleaners. Lots of work to do but also lots of opportunities for all of us ahead!
