We were lucky to catch up with Laura Young recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Laura thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Our gallery often goes above and beyond to tell our customers how much their business means to us. Prior to larger scale exhibitions some of our artists make a token or gift for their collectors, at times they can make up to 15o small tokens or gifts, sometimes its as few as 10. Regardless of the quantity of pieces needed to be sent out I see it as my job to hand write a note to go along with each gift letting the recipient know about the exhibition inviting them for a private viewing and just in general thanking them for all that they do. As silly as it sounds, sometimes it takes me a whole week to hand write all of the notes but it always feels so worth it. Especially when I receive texts and emails thanking us.
Laura, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I studied furniture design at RISD graduating in 2007, I went on to work at an auction House, followed by graphic design and creative direction work. I ultimately ended up at The Future Perfect, where I have worked in every facet of the business assisting us to grow from a creative standpoint over the past 10 years. My role encompasses, sales, marketing, merchandising, curation and artist management.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think NFTs are a version of something better to come. I think they needed to exist and will redefine the way we think about ownership from a digital/meta perspective but I think this is just the beginning and the future will be very very different.
Any advice for managing a team?
Be kind, have empathy and patience, and feed them. Nothing makes my team happier then an afternoon treat on a rainy or slow day.
