We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Laura Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Laura below.
Laura, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Vinyl Lollipops was established in 2011 as a side project from my photography business. It was ladies, which I called my “Lollipops” posing with records “Vinyl.” Lollipop was my nickname when I was a child. All of the vinyls I received from a family member.
Jumping forward to 2018 I interviewed my first band. This came about because a radio DJ kept putting off the interview of a local band. I had my Facebook page still posted from the photography era and decided to post the interview there. It was a success so I decided to continue interviewing bands. I’m currently up to 980+ written interviews. I am well over 1000 if you include videoed interviews and DJ interviews as well.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am currently in the promotion phase for expanding into a clothing brand as well. It will be Vinyl Lollipops inspired.
There are so many interviews to check out! I cover metal and rock genres from all over the world! Whether they are known bands or local to certain areas I always take the time to interview them and give extra promotion that is usually needed. I’ve interviewed;
KIX, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Saliva, Kittie, Tantric, Tony Dolan from Venom Inc, Every Mothers Nightmare, Raven, Mike Skill from the Romantics, Madison VanDenberg from American Idol, Bobbie Jean Brown (Cherry Pie), and 980+ local bands from around the world.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
All of the interviews I do are for free. I am still building my brand and hope to branch out in the future. Currently the only money I put up is for booking shows on occasion. I do put minimal payments in for advertising the shows. That investment usually goes towards professional flyers. I like for all of them to be similar so it’s obvious that it is a Vinyl Lollipops show.
I do have some funds set aside for my clothing brand. I am hoping to tie this in to help draw attention to the interviews.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Bands and readers. Both helping to spread the word helps greatly! I also receive interviews and interview requests from management companies, record labels, and a lot of PR companies. There are way too many to name! I appreciate each and everyone of them.
