We recently connected with Laura Scannapieco and have shared our conversation below.
Laura, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My name is Lauralouu and I am entrepreneur. So my story started back in 2011 when I realized I don’t work well under-someone else. It started small, I just started doing things I loved to do and thats how my small empire was built. I went to school for fine arts metals and jewelry and painting. I am huge lover for music so while i was in. school i started working as a personal assistant for a music promoter. growing up Ive been a lover of movement and the arts and so I just kept the vibe going, I fell in-love with yoga in my 20s and decided to get my certification in teaching when i was 24. Not only was yoga so healing, its a beautiful art form. The entertainment industry for me did not last long but i met so many amazing connections throughout my time working in the industry. yoga and wellness became my world as well as my craft in jewelry design. as years passed i continued to study and grow and advanced my profession further with Thai bodywork and pilates and its been such a huge success.
As you know, we are all human and life just gets in the way sometimes. The universe always knows when you need to slow down. Last year, 2022 was a pretty hard year for me personally. I took some time for myself, I stepped away, way more than I wanted to with my business ventures, but it was absolutely necessary. I cut back on my teaching and my jewelry business so that I could do some serious healing work. How to i make ends meet? Well I started a small pet sitting business that actually grew pretty comfortably for me during the last year! That really held me over while I was healing and focusing on my practice and just straightening myself out. while I feel like I’m seeing the light and on the mend i started ANOTHER business venture that has been just therapeutic for me but I want to share it with the world. It called Yoga for realists. My mission is to help the healers heal! A healer is someone who holds space for another. I named it yoga for realists because Im a yogi and realist, but my mission is to help and support all the other healers around me. I think people forget about the healer and their work and how Its important to know whats going on the other side. So my goal is to start a podcast and hold discussions for the healers, Let’s just chit chat about whatever and get whatever we need off our chest. Talking is the most healing thing we all can do.

Laura, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I listened to my soul. I know it sounds silly, but I love my skills, I love business, and I like knowing I can use my skills to provide for myself and I love that i can provide for others in someway. It just brings me joy!
I have always had a love for fashion and the arts. I went to school at Buffalo State College studying fine arts and Jewelry. Jewelry design has also been super therapeutic for me. Shopping brings me so much joy so the whole buying and reselling concept was super easy to help sustain my business.
Growing up i was heavily involved in cheerleading and gymnastics. which led me to love yoga and pilates. dancing and moving my body is so healing and keeps me going when things get heavy, which is what lead me into teaching it. I knew immediately that this was what my calling was. There are times where my job teaching can be so draining which is why i have so many other businesses. I know I can’t teach full time, thats just crazy for anyone to sustain. One thing I do know, is that I will be teaching or leading in someway for the rest of my life. It just feels so right.
I have been a lover of animals my whole life. My Petsitting business was just this tiny little gig here and there, that turned into a business where I needed other sitters! which was wild to me. so I have some allies who can step in when I cannot.
Each business provides for the other businesses I own. the cliental is so vast, that when you have cliental for one business, you have them for all! Which turns into a small cute little empire for myself. Would I love to see it grow? Very much so!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Well there is a couple. I’m a heavy feeler and empath. I needed to learn how to not let my feelings get in the way of my business, which can be challenging when you’re juggling like 4 businesses. Also asking for help has always been a struggle for me. I like to do things on my own and my pride gets in the way of any relationships I have had personally and professionally. I needed to remind myself that people are out there that want to help me and see me grow!
Last year I had many people reminded me that Im undervaluing myself and that iIm worth so much more then I see myself, which was a huge eye opener and also a reason I needed to step into my healing journey. Like why was I undervaluing myself? What was causing me to feel like I wasn’t worth more? Those questions were a huge pivotal moment into my healing process. Like I said earlier in this interview, Im on the mends and Im not leveling up and I see a huge light at the end of the tunnel.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I think my wellness business has been the best source of new cliental. I am contracted out to many places around Denver and I meet so many new students and clients through those studios and such that have been a huge support for my other businesses.
