We recently connected with Laura Saltman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
The defining moment in my career as a healer was when I began using telepathic communication to hear the words of a dying woman in hospice. I knew before that moment I had the ability to channel and be a medium but never had I experienced an ability to translate words back and forth in conversation. It was so cathartic for her to finally (after not being able to communicate with words to her family in months) say her goodbyes. It caused me to let go of the fear of judgement I knew I would be receiving from others in this healing work and understand the profound impact it could make in the lives of people who are struggling to process death and dying.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my career as a reporter and producer in entertainment news. It was the death of my brother from cancer followed by dad’s suicide that sent me on a path to healing and transformation. I left the world of television and entered a period of personal growth by attending classes, reading books on spirituality and writing my own books which began as journals. From there I was called to work with tarot/oracle cards and then became a medium. In the beginning I would do readings for friends and family and once I felt established in that and on solid ground I branched out to strangers. I remember I did a free reading for about 15 people at a women’s conference in Ft. Lauderdale and people were bawling their eyes out. I knew I had something. One of my friends believed in me so much she introduced me to the team at Fab Fit Fun, the subscription box service. They would often do special things like offer readings for sale and so I partnered with them on a special price and it sold out in about 30 minutes. I did 50 readings (again for total strangers) and nailed every single one of them. That’s when I felt confident that this could become a career. It was a wild shift from entertainment news to Hollywood healer but it’s paid off in droves. Now I get to work with all sorts of artists and creators to help them see the vision for their future and move them out of fear and disbelief so they can create success.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think social media has been my greatest challenge. I was working for Access Hollywood just as it became a thing in the 2010’s and then I left in 2014. So I was never quite able to capitalize on the celebrity content I was making that I know would have been a great boon to my career. It feels like a chore to figure out content rather than flowing naturally and I think I hold a belief around it that isn’t quite serving my narrative. I would tell my clients to look at the belief and find the truth within themselves of how to move through it. I’m still figuring it out for myself but one thing I did to change my belief around social media is take a job with someone who is incredible successful with it. So I am teaching her all about manifestation and she is teaching me all about algorithms! I think the best way to lose a fear is to face it head on.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been being authentic with my own ups and downs. It doesn’t help to pretend as if your life is working perfectly if it’s not. People want to feel an emotional connection to someone. To say “I see you, I am you.” If we can help each other from a place of empathy and compassion and not power and greed it’s really what the journey is all about here on earth.
