Alright, Laura thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Defining Moment Story:
I had been working for a non-profit that trains Doctors on using Nutrition & Stress Management Skills to help heal patients – something that has traditionally been left out of medical schools. As a certified yoga instructor with a hunger towards anything that we can do to empower our own bodies I was drawn to work and learn from this organization. While there, I began experiencing digestive issues and lymph issues I had never previously experienced. I had begun to be scared to eat anything at all for fear of pain and discomfort upon ingestion. I consulted with several doctors and no one had a firm diagnosis but did manage to have a long list of medications that may help. I declined the medicine and instead went to see an acupuncturist. It was this meeting and my time withe her that reversed my digestive issues and also allowed me to understand the incredible connection between our emotions, mental state and physical health. I was so amazed at my recovery that I enrolled in acupuncture school soon after. This connection between mind, body and emotion was and still is the foundation of how I treat my clients. My personal recovery left me in amazement that I never had to get on medications and I was able to eat again without pain or fear. I wanted to share this path of healing, this defining moment for me, and that was what drew me to a career in acupuncture, chinese medicine, yoga and meditation, lifestyle wellness and energy work.
Laura , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew up with a fascination for eastern philosophy through Tibetan Buddhism and Yoga. I was encouraged to practice yoga as a child and sought it out as a core tool for me as I continued to grow. I believe the connection between our bodies, minds, emotions, AND nature all work together, rely on each other, and effect one another. In Chinese Medicine this is a core truth. In my practice I specialize in treating infertility, GI issues, anxiety, depression, insomnia, back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, immune disorders and PMS. I see over and over again that by treating all parts of a human and connecting lifestyle habits back in alignment to the rhythms of nature, rapid transformation and a rebound in health, peace, happiness and wellness occur in my patients. In my practice I treat the whole person. If there are symptoms showing up in one place physically or in one aspect (emotionally etc.) other pieces of the person also need re-balancing. Nothing gets out of whack on its own and everything can come back into alignment together. This is how I treat and this is what gets results.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I rely on my patients experiences and testimonials. This has by far been what has grown my business. Testimonials and word of mouth. Networking and creating authentic relationships is also key.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As as sole practitioner doing everything in my business, it takes courage, strength and fortitude to keep going. I think the thing that helps me keep going the most is seeing the difference my service makes in a client. Also, I sometimes feel a bit lost and having a coach helps me keep on track!
