Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to LAURA RODRIGUEZ. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
LAURA, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
Yes, and I think it’s important for several reasons. Taking vacations can help business owners recharge, gain new perspectives, and prevent burnout. To keep things running smoothly while you’re away, start by delegating responsibilities. Empower your team by assigning clear roles and ensuring they know who to turn to in your absence. Planning ahead is crucial, so schedule your vacation during a slower period for your business and inform clients and stakeholders well in advance. Utilizing technology is beneficial, so implement tools for project management, communication, and automation to keep operations on track. It’s essential to trust your team, so build a reliable group that you can depend on to handle day-to-day operations. While disconnecting is important, stay accessible for emergencies and set specific times for check-ins if necessary. Documenting processes is also vital; create detailed documentation for standard operating procedures so your team can refer to them when needed. Taking a vacation not only benefits you but can also encourage your team to take responsibility and grow.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a real estate agent who is also an investor specializing in fixing and flipping properties. I got into the business eight years ago with the encouragement of my family. Since then, I have grown and evolved significantly, thanks to the support and collaboration of my business partners.
I still very much love working with buyers, helping them find their dream home, as well as with sellers, ensuring they get top dollar for their properties. My passion for taking risks and continually evolving within the industry has allowed me to stay at the forefront of the real estate market and provide invaluable knowledge to my clients. Over the years, I have become a great resource for all of my clients when it comes to real estate.
For folks who may not have read about me before, I started in real estate with a strong foundation in family support and a drive to make a difference in the industry. I provide a wide range of services, including assisting buyers in finding their perfect homes, helping sellers maximize their property value, and investing in properties to fix and flip them for profit.
The problems I solve for my clients include navigating the complexities of the real estate market, offering expert advice on property investments, and ensuring smooth and successful transactions. What sets me apart from others is my commitment to taking calculated risks, evolving with the industry, and my dedication to sharing my extensive knowledge with my clients.
I am most proud of the trust and relationships I have built with my clients, who rely on me as a comprehensive resource for all their real estate needs. The main things I want potential clients and followers to know about me and my brand are my unwavering commitment to excellence, my passion for real estate, and my continuous effort to grow and adapt to serve my clients better.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is the idea that I needed to handle everything myself to ensure success. As a real estate agent and investor who fixes and flips properties, I initially believed that managing every aspect of my business personally was the only way to maintain control and quality. However, this approach quickly led to burnout and hindered my ability to grow and scale my operations.
I got into the business eight years ago with the encouragement of my family, and over time, I realized the importance of building a strong team. Outsourcing tasks that I’m not the best at and focusing on my core talents has allowed me to provide better service to my clients. When you have a strong team behind you, it makes everything so much better and gives you peace of mind that other things are being taken care of. You have people you can rely on when life happens.
The backstory involves a period when I was overwhelmed with managing multiple property deals, client interactions, and administrative tasks. It became clear that my business partners and I needed to delegate responsibilities and bring in experts to handle specific areas. This shift not only improved the efficiency and quality of our work but also allowed me to concentrate on what I do best—helping buyers find their dream homes and sellers get top dollar for their properties.
Unlearning the need to do everything myself and embracing teamwork has been a pivotal lesson in my career, leading to greater success and personal fulfillment.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Absolutely. A few years into my career as a real estate agent and investor specializing in fixing and flipping properties, I faced a significant challenge that tested my resilience. I had taken on a particularly ambitious flip—a large, old property that needed extensive renovations. The project was more complex than any I had tackled before, with unforeseen structural issues and mounting costs.
Despite these hurdles, I was determined to see it through. My initial reaction was to handle everything myself, but the magnitude of the project made it clear that I needed help. This was a turning point in my journey.
I reached out to my business partners and we brought in specialized contractors to address the structural issues. We also outsourced parts of the renovation that were outside our expertise. The process required meticulous planning, constant adjustments, and a lot of patience.
Throughout the renovation, there were moments of doubt and setbacks, but I learned to rely on my team and delegate responsibilities effectively. The project took longer than anticipated, but the end result was a beautifully restored property that sold for a substantial profit.
This experience reinforced the importance of resilience and the value of having a strong team. It taught me that we can’t do everything alone and that sometimes, the best way to overcome challenges is to trust and rely on others. This lesson has been invaluable in my career, allowing me to tackle even bigger projects and provide top-notch service to my clients.
Ultimately, this journey not only illustrated my resilience but also marked a significant growth point in my professional life, showing that with determination and the right support, any challenge can be overcome.
