Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Laura Mayo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Laura, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My mother pushed me outside of my comfort zone when I was a teenager. She saw gifts in me that I was unaware of and she made many sacrifices to make sure I had the best opportunities.

Laura, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Laura and I am a sound healing practitioner! For over two decades I have pursued my passion for music as a jazz singer. Music has always been my greatest spiritual outlet and my life’s work has revolved around it. About 8 years ago I began exploring the depths of spirituality and the power of sound continued to flow steadily through me as I navigated some of the most difficult work of my life. What started as a curiosity for self awareness and reflection, became an endless journey in seeking a deeper connection with source and All That Is.
It is this spiritual journey that led me towards sound healing. I started to receive messages in dreams and began taking notice of synchronicities in my daily life. Even the cashier at the grocery store was talking to me about using sound as therapy! I took it as an invitation!
I started to explore sound healing as a discipline, attending a 7 month training with Ann Sensing, an incredible sound practitioner and teacher in Nashville, TN. My background as a musician gave me some first-hand understanding of how music can heal, but what I learned in those 7 months profoundly changed my life. I finally understood how sound can be used to create deep and everlasting shifts in one’s mind, body and spirit. This revelation is one of the greatest gifts I could have ever received.
As a sound healing practitioner, I assist clients in connecting with their inner wisdom and at times, ancestors and guides may come through to deliver powerful messages. Simple instrumentation allows for the body and mind to come into a state of relaxation so that something just below the surface can rise up to be acknowledged. I may also use a drum and sing a melody that feels tailored to the client. This will come to me intuitively as I am in a session.
I’m most proud of the moments when I see my clients experience a breakthrough or emotional release in a one-on-one session, or the powerful energy shift that happens in a group sound bath. These moments are what keep me inspired and motivated to continue my work. This is my calling and I feel so grateful to have been given the signs and the tools to fulfill what has become my life’s path and greatest love.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As a singer and in life, I have always been a perfectionist. If one note is not perfect, I will say I failed. There is no room for this mentality in sound healing, as I am totally led by intuition. Every session is different, and I have to let go of preconceived notions about the way it’ “should” go. The phrase “Let Go and Let God” comes to mind! It’s may sound cheesy, but I have to get out of my own way when it comes to this kind of work. Whatever the client needs has nothing to do with me and my perfectionism! I trust that spirit and the client’s higher self will guide me, and I allow that to take place.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
This work tends to be very organic and the way that clients find me is too! They come to me mostly through word of mouth.
