Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Laura Masteller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Laura thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
As a nurse, there are so many things that you can do with your career. I never thought that owning a medspa would be one of them! I was not a “girly-girl” growing up and I still am not, but I absolutely love aesthetics. I love helping people feel better about the skin they are in. When I started my business I was doing travel nursing. The shifts are long and exhausting as a bedside nurse, I was coming home every night physically mentally and emotionally exhausted. I 100% wish I would have listened to my husband and made the jump into aesthetics and running my business sooner. I truly believe that I would be so much farther in life if I would have.

Laura, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been in healthcare for 17 years and a nurse for 14 of those with 3 years dedicated to aesthetics. I never thought I would be one of those people who got Botox or plastic surgery. But when I first made the leap I was amazed at how much better I felt about myself. I started getting Botox during COVID. We were constantly wearing masks and the best way to express ourselves to our patients was through the upper 1/3 of our face, that really started to take a toll, insert Botox here. I took my first trip to get Botox with my mother-in-law and I have never looked back.
The atmosphere of the medspa captivated me. The staff were genuinely excited to see clients and hear about their lives. They never seemed stressed or emotionally distraught. Who knew that was a thing in the world of nursing? So, I thought to myself, I should do this with my career. I want to be happy and have time to talk to my clients and legitly get to know them. This is what I am most proud of. I have established relationships with my clients. I always want new and current clients to feel comfortable sitting in the chair, I never want them to be afraid to tell me anything. I will never pressure anyone into doing something they don’t want to do and I will never judge. I give my honest opinion whether or not that generates a profit or not.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my medical director, Brittany Hooten, NP, through a previous place of employment. The business closed and it was devastating to the both of us. We felt belittled and unappreciated as staff members. We both have similar goals and genuinely believe in empowering women to feel their best.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is tough to break through. The algorithms are hard to understand. More posting doesn’t necessarily mean more likes/shares or follows. Hire a great social media person to help you out, you won’t regret spending the money.
