We were lucky to catch up with Laura Lecy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Laura, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
RoundWreath was started in 2020 because I was highly disappointed with the selection and low quality of wreaths at big box stores and could not bring myself to spend hundreds of dollars for custom wreaths online.
As a teacher on leave during Covid, I had time to invest in my creative outlets. I become mesmerized by wreaths and their versatility as decor and gifting. Like many, I love to decorate the spaces around me and truly believe in the power of #floraldecor. A beautiful environment can be inviting, relaxing, personalized, and memorable!
As of 2023, RoundWreath offers over 100 varieties of high-quality retail items, wreath subscriptions, faux floral wedding services, gifting, and custom design options available at your fingertips.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
RoundWreath is a family-owned and operated retail business based in Minnesota.
Our goal is to be the company that democratizes door decor; making RoundWreath a household brand locally and throughout the nation.
How is Roundwreath different? We have thousands of wreaths in-stock/ready to ship &
are at the ground floor of taking an everyday decor piece (wreaths) and exclusively retailing it.
We are also the first retailer that provides customization services, wreath subscriptions, affordable gifting, faux floral wedding services & more.
RoundWreath is very passionate about encouraging patients getting infusion treatments. Which is why we love to deliver wreaths to oncology centers around Minnesota. You’d be surprised how much happiness and encouragement a wreath can give to someone going through a medical treatment. This is what we’re all about.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
As an ecommerce company, RoundWreath has learned that it’s important to have many sales channels you’re working from, all selling your product and getting your name out there. We not only sell from our own website (RoundWreath.com), but also partner as wholesale vendors to many companies. We do this in two ways: drop ship-where we send out the orders from our warehouse, and also upfront wholesale ordering-where they buy in bulk from us. We have loved partnering with great companies, all who are willing to promote our product and brand.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding a business can be highly stressful and time-consuming as you work to keep your dream alive. I remember initially applying for business loans and being turned down. I was so disappointed (and don’t give up easily) so I took the time to write personal letters to banks. Telling them about our mission and purpose. Taking the time to humanize ourselves as a company. This worked!
