We recently connected with Laura Harrison and have shared our conversation below.
LAURA, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
Yes! It has been a journey but I think the number one thing that has solidified being able to make a living off of my creative ability is being disciplined with learning and executing skill. You can’t go when you have perfected your craft. This also means learning is never a one time thing it is constant. This has given me the ability to have infinite clientele

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Growing up I was always into beauty and fashion but my parents made it clear that they wanted me to go to college first. So after graduating with a bachelor’s I couldn’t find a job for months so I decided to pursue cosmetology school with a loan from my grandmother. I stayed in my hometown Washington Dc working in a salon for a few years then I decided to move to miami. Miami was up and down in the hair industry because the humid weather and snow-bird culture where most people leave in the summer and stay in the winter. So LA was always on my radar. I moved to LA in 2019 and found my salon home. Since I have specialized in color, blonding and curly/textured hair.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Tik Tok! Posting videos consistently with my location tagged has allowed me to gain alot of new clients.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to create my own schedule and being able to pivot. For example learning a new service and offering it to see how it pans out.
