We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laura Grant a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Laura, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I started writing about relationships when I was around 12 years old. I was working with a vocal coach and she encouraged me to keep a journal to help inspire my songwriting process. When I began writing songs about love, I found myself, even at that young age, tapping into universal themes in social/emotional development and archetypes. At 23, I started a graduate program and began studying early childhood development and psychology. It was a mix of my own personal reflection through art and my professional studies in human behavior that provided me with the wisdom I have today. I think the most essential skill I have is my ability to reflect and process. I spend a lot of time putting together pieces and finding the central themes in humanity— the collective story. I would say my biggest obstacle was finding the confidence to share my reflections. I still sometimes struggle to share certain things, I hold back often.

Laura, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m an intuitive coach and singer/songwriter. I focus primarily on spirituality, conscious relationships, and the dynamics with Masculine/Feminine energies. Years ago I started a blog called “The Woken Mind” and started posting my writing and reflections on social media and YouTube. My writing became popular and led to people asking for coaching services. I’ve coached men and women all over the world and have hosted group classes and workshops. I help people understand the deeper spiritual purpose behind their relationships and how to balance their own Masculine/Feminine energies. A lot of people are drawn to my work after experiencing an intense soul connection with another person or when they feel a yearning for a higher love and purpose. As someone who is also an artist, I like for my writing to be open to interpretation. When coaching, I guide people to tap into their own intuition, I don’t just tell them what they need to do. I’m just a mirror who is in service to the collective.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I just showed up on a regular basis and shared from my heart and soul. I never paid for any marketing or utilized coaches. I showed up authentically and attracted soul family who resonated with my words. My advice for those who are building a social media presence is to find your voice and your passion, be you. It’s hard to post regularly if you aren’t doing something that is deeply meaningful for your own life’s journey.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I write words and create music because it gives me an outlet to express, and expression gives me peace. I’ve had an intense life with a lot of light and a lot darkness; writing words and lyrics is how I cope and process. I’m also a Leo sun, mars, and mercury- so I love the attention. I’m mostly joking, but it is nice to know that others feel seen and understood through what I share with the public.
