We recently connected with Laura Goulet-osorio and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always wanted to start something of my own. Something that would belong to me, and in this case to us. One day I decided that I wanted to do something nice for my parents after so many years of prioritizing me and my si kings over them, I thought they deserved something nice, at least a dinner and then it came to me: “maybe a picnic on the beach with some good food and fine wine wouldn’t be that bad” and I knew that was happening around in the west coast already with all the COVID things, so I did that for them, and I remember my mom saying “this is like a piece of heaven on earth, I wish everyone could have this experience!”
And then we saw the opportunity there, I asked my parents if they wanted to do it my family got all in and that’s how this little business started. We bought everything we needed and the day that we got everything felt so right, cause what better than making business about doing something that makes people happiness and joy.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Laura Goulet-Osorio, I’m Colombian, and I’ve been here for almost 5 years. My career originally was Veterinary Medicine, but until my title is validated I decided that I wanted to do something that I owned, and something to be proud of, so we made a Luxury picnic business company, that today has grown to Event/wedding planning, we set up picnics for any kind of special occassion and to make it grow even more now I became a photographer so we could add it to our packages and that way we can say we do provide the full service that our clients need, and I think that’s what makes us different.
Heavenly Escapes Charleston LLC offers full service and works with ANY kind of budget the client has and still delivers amazing results for their special event. This is not only a business, and is not only about the money, for me and I’m pretty sure that for the rest of my team is about making our clients event the most exciting experience. We love to see the happiness in our clients when they see their surprise or how their beautiful their event is. The satisfaction of knowing that we made someone happy with our work is the most precious thing that this business has given to us.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think our whole journey has been proof of resilience. The service we provide had a lot of fans and since we made our business some other people did too! It’s amazing how many picnic companies started business after we started and it keeps growing, and that’s okay! We always said “gods blessings are for everyone and the market is huge so we can make it” however it had a huge impact on how many events we were getting. We definitely needed to change something that would make us different. For three years we were stumbling and a couple of times we thought about giving up. But then this year we said “no this can’t be, there’s enough clients and this city is huge! There’s still a lot to do here” so we decided to expand, my team started to prepare and get different courses that could help us make it better, and get into the area of event/wedding planning, photography and marketing online, and this last year has been a year of huge success and growth. Even having the opportunity of sharing our story here is proof of success. We have a company with a lot of potential, a company that now is legally recognized and grows every single day. I couldn’t be more proud of all the hard work we put into this and how much we adapted in just one year to make this business something worth fighting for.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Social media has been our biggest source of clientele. We started building our presence in platforms like instagram and Facebook this year, and right now diving into TikTok a little bit too (even though it’s a little scary I’m not sure why) and at the moment of asking to our clients how did their hear from us we always get the same responses “social media”
It’s been a really interesting journey and learning how algorithms work and what people likes to see in this platforms has been a challenge, and until today sometimes we struggle a little bit with it, but so far everything that we’ve learned has been taking us to success, and left some lessons for the future.
