We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Laura Giraudo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Laura below.
Alright, Laura thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
After many collaborations together, Roberto and I decided to finally join (design) forces. We met in Argentina years before, while both of us where in University studying to become graphic designers. After years of friendship that evolved into a relationship, we first moved to Italy (where I pursued a Master in Visual Design in Scuola Politecnica di Milano), and then to New York.
While in New York I interned for Mucca Design and then freelanced in several studios. One after the other projects started to coming our way.
We both hesitated in the past about officially working together, but doing so felt the right next step. We talked and briefly organized our future company. We both knew what we could bring to the table, and after 10 years of Bardo, I feel so lucky to share my business with my best friend and my partner.
Laura, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a graphic designer first, and everything else second. I was born in a small province in the north west of Argentina named Tucumán. Tucumán seated by the side of a mountain, in an eternal summer, offer high temperatures and humidity, and a super green vegetation.
I moved to Buenos Aires to study Graphic Design in University of Buenos Aires. I also studied Advertising in the Escuela de Creativos Publicitarios, and later to Italy to do a Master in Visual Design.
Design is where my brain clicks.
Experimentation on Design is where my brain thrives.
I’m in a constant search of projects and challenges.
At Bardo, we specialize in Brand Identity, Packaging, Visual Design, but the reality is that naming these end products is to generalize something that is really specific. We position ourselves as partners of our clients, we work in tandem with them to bring the best visual output to communicate their message in the most creative and innovative way possible.
Each client has its uniqueness, finding this and put it into a visual language is what we do best.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Many years ago, a friend came with the idea of starting an art project. This project evolved into a company, to be more specific, a liquor company, a wild agave mezcal brand.
This experience opened a whole universe and industry to us, and most of it, it opened my palate.
During COVID times I decided I would dig into something that I was very curious, it was sort of a passion and wanted to learn more, so I get myself into an intensive sommelier course, and became a certified sommelier.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Always do your best job. There’s no more science than this. A happy client will not only pay the bills, will also recommend you to other clients, and that is, in my opinion, your biggest earn.
