Laura, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think the only difference between successful people and those that don’t make it is the discipline to follow through on committments, either to yourself or others. So many people dream of a business or plan to do things to grow, but never follow through with it. We frequently get calls from people who were trying to work with other agencies, but that agency ghosted them. Developing a habit of following through can really make or break your business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started Bliss Honeymoons almost 19 years ago. We offer honeymoon, destination weddings, romantic get-aways, and more. I think the thing that really sets us apart is our experience. Our agents are very well traveled, and really enjoy creating amazing trips for people.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As a travel agency, we are compensated by the hotels after the trip has been completed. So when the world shut down in March 2020, it was devastating to our business. We spent countless hours cancelling and rebooking trips for people, which was work that we received no compensation for. While some clients understood, I remember a good week just being a week when someone didn’t threaten to sue us because they couldn’t get all of their money back. We went about 18 months with no income. But we survived.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’ve read countless business and marketing books over the years. The onces that really stand out are Book Yourself Solid by Michael Port, Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller, and Marketing Made Simple by Donald Miller.
