We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Laura Damiano. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Laura below.
Laura, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Your overall mindset! You have to be willing to put in the time, the dedication, spend money to make money + the passionate drive. You need to accept mistakes will be made so you can learn along the way. You need to be open to criticism + not take it to heart.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I design custom stationery, primarily for wedding – but for all occasions, as well company branding (such as logos, business cards and marketing materials). One thing that sets me apart from the rest is that all of my designs are custom and never reproduced. The result – a unique design sole to each client.
As a graphic designer by trade, I ventured into the stationery world for my love of paper and typography. What started out as a hobby, became an adventure that I’m glad I decided to pursue. Jumping from the corporate world with no capital was a scary transition, but I kept my focus on what I wanted and my persistence to accomplish it. My son Jace has added to the fuel to keep going, constantly be inventive and stay passionate throughout it all. I pour my heart and soul into each design I create. I am honored that I have won many awards during my almost 13 years in business.
In 2022, I have been awarded as one of the “Top Women in Business” by 914inc. + Westchester Magazine and a “Double Louie Award Finalist” (both in 2022 + 2023) by the Greeting Card Association. In 2013, 2016 and 2022, I was awarded the “Best of Westchester” award, which is based on votes by readers of Westchester Magazine. In 2014, I was awarded the prestigious “40 Under 40 Award” by the Business Council of Westchester. In 2018, I received Stationery Trends “40 Under 40 Gift + Stationery” award as well. I have also been consecutively awarded, for the past 13 years, numerous awards from Wedding Wire and The Knot. I have also been featured in many print and digital publications such as Grace Ormonde Wedding Style, Wedding Chicks, and Carats + Cake just to name a few.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Both positive client reviews and referrals, features in publications and the various awards I’ve been given throughout the years.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect(s) would probably be the extreme satisfaction from my clients and the public recognition of my talent in the creative industry.
