We recently connected with Laura Bartlett and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The pandemic caused a lot of disruption in the world and specifically the fitness world. When everything shut down, as a studio manager of Orangetheory Fitness I realized how vulnerable my career choice was and the effects that a public emergency like that could have on the world and my personal life. I lost my job, like many others, and found it very hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel during this crazy time.
While I had lots of time to think, I was bored and felt I needed to find a way to create another stream of income or study for a new career path in the case that the gym was to never re-open. Thankfully, at the time I had a close friend entertain the idea of becoming an Insurance Broker and I knew it couldn’t hurt to get licensed. I got to studying and became licensed as a Life & Health Insurance Agent in the state of Colorado within a couple months.
Fast forward to preparing to re-open the Orangetheory Fitness studio and after a successful re-open, plus the immense increase in members returning to the studio!! -but, it was never going to be the same. It was constant back and forth about rules and regulations to remain open and always teetering on whether or not we would be able to stay open or in business. I chose to throw in my towel and leave my position as the manager to start my own business as a remote Independent Insurance Agent.
This was a huge risk I was taking by leaving a salary position with benefits to being a first time self-employed entrepreneur (starting from scratch). With the support of my family and loving husband, I have spent the past 4 years building something of my own and I am so proud to be a resource to my current and future clients in my local community and communities across the states. Throughout these past 4 years I have continued to learn and certify annually as a trusted health and Medicare consultant. It was scary at the beginning, heading into unknown territory and doubt of being successful, but it has been one of the best leaps I have taken for my personal career and family.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
