We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Laura Arderius. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Laura below.
Laura, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
My first client was through my Etsy shop on March 2017. It was an Easter wreath with a bunny
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
When I came to live in the United States approximately 10 years ago, the wreaths that people put on their doors caught my attention. It is something that in the country where I come from does not exist. I bought one and immediately realized that I could do better.. Investigate where to buy the materials and start testing. It wasn’t as easy as I imagined but with time and desire I began to improve.
I opened my shop on Etsy and started selling little by little. It gave me great satisfaction to receive a comment from a client saying that he liked my Wreath and basically that is what made me want to continue.
every time I make a Wreath I do it thinking about if I would be able to put it on my door. I use the best quality of flowers.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The comments and reviews that I receive through my shop are what help me to continue and tell me that I am going in the right direction. It is never easy to start a new business because we are swimming in unknown waters and making people happy with what one believes is the greatest benefit one can have beyond the money you can make.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
It is a challenge to compete with companies that produce massively, especially because the costs of the raw material, in this case the flowers, are high. I think the people who buy wreaths do not understand that the cost of each flower is very high and they only see a final price, without taking into account that making them not only requires time and the ability to put them together to obtain a harmonious result
