We were lucky to catch up with Laundry Matte recently and have shared our conversation below.
Laundry, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Before we started Laundry Matte Creative Studios, we were four friends who had plenty of ideas but no way to properly execute some of said ideas. We decided to go the DIY route and establish a space to make it all possible. Before we got started, our main objective was to not step on the toes of print shops and other creatives that came before us, rather we wanted to create a studio that works parallel to other artists and collaborate with them when possible. We also wanted our studio to be an available space for anyone who has an experimental idea but doesn’t have the tools to make it possible.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Everyone that makes up Laundry Matte initially met as designers working together at a Memphis local screenprinting shop. While we provide your typical print-based services such as shirts, koozies, and tote bags, we are always eager to enter uncharted waters, tackling experimental projects and processes in our own work and the work of artists we have the privilege of collaborating with. We are always ready to help however we can along the creative process because while we enjoy the work we want to do, we love a good challenge.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
We all pitched in a relatively equal share because we didn’t want to be in debt to anyone. We slowly purchased the necessary equipment and built whatever else we needed along the way. While this process has made for slower growth, we are entirely self-owned and operated.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Creating a quality product with a quick turnaround. Maintaining transparency with the artist about what is possible, and meeting expectations.
