We were lucky to catch up with LaTrina Williams recently and have shared our conversation below.
LaTrina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
Im in massage therapy school and I’m driving 2 1/2 hours from my hometown of Lufkin, TX to Houston. I’m doing this Monday thru Friday at night! My car is crap by the way, constantly needing repairs, So I’m basically driving on hope and a dream every night.
One night I break down on the side of a road. There are no street lights and it’s quit scary.
While waiting on my help to come I start to ponder why I keep doing this. Making this long drive, dealing with this car, going to these hard classes.
I’m overwhelmed with defeat. I’m not working as much, can’t afford another car and not seeing my child as much as I used to.
I took a 2 week break from school. I was about to quit, literally.
But on that last week of my break I started to realize that there must be something in this I’m supposed to be doing. I was lead to this path when my life was not in the best place. I was depressed, broke, and in need of a change. I made it almost halfway through school. I had to finish this. There was too much sacrificed at this point.
9 years later I’m still here. Providing manual therapy and growing my knowledge in this field very year.
I know I’m supposed to be here because I continue to show up. I continue to realize the importance of staying committed and learning more and more about this therapy. And I’m not done learning and I get excited about that part. Even through the challenging courses Im trying to master…I still want it like I did broke down on that dark road.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into this industry after being a hair stylist for almost 10 years. I’d get constant compliments on the scalp massage I’d give clients. In high school I’d massage my brother after football practice and I’d rub my moms feet after her long work days. Everyone said I had good hands. So I started looking up massage schools near me when my life needed a change. Today, I’m the owner of Logistic Massage & Bodywork in Houston, Texas. My motto is “Building a plan to help you feel better.”
My brand is simple. I want to help my clients maintain the one body we have through manual therapy and all that it comes with.
Im never done working on my craft. I’ll always be updating and molding it. There is so much information and studies that are doing the same so I don’t think I’ll every stick to just one way of doing things.
I offer a range of products to compliment what I specialize in.
For my spa services I offer natural body scrubs. I offer self care products like manual release tools and therapy balls for at home care between sessions. I also offer CBD products and Seamoss products for internal wellness.
The body is whole, inside and outside so I want to help it in its entirety.
I am most proud of the milestones my clients reach when being consistent with treatments. Often times we forget that most dysfunction take a long time to form so reversing it takes time as well. Being committed to your body is never a waste.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
2020 COVID hit and ’m forced to close my business. I’m left pondering what the new norm will be. Who wants to be touched by a manual therapist during these times? Nobody! Income became non existent.
I noticed everyone online more so I created an online recovery program.
It caters to those at home, which we all were, on ways to get some much needed relief in their bodies. The section of the program goes through different areas of the body and takes clients step by step on what they can do at home for themselves during this time. I’m not very computer savvy so this was a major challenge making that pivot.
I couldn’t offer my services physically so I create a digital service.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I had to save my money to start my business. I was strictly a mobile therapist my first few years. While working for the spa, I’d save some of each check. After a few years, I was presented the opportunity to rent a shared office space and I jumped on it!
