We recently connected with La’’Tricia Shorter and have shared our conversation below.
La’’Tricia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I’m LaTricia Shorter better known as Slim. I’m a salon owner in Florissant Missouri. I have been in business since 2014. Slim Designs is the name of my business . I’m a mastered stylist in natural Locs. Locs has always been a passion of mines. A little about my what made me strive for the best in my business was my husband and my beautiful daughter. They are the reason of my success. They always push me to do and grow bigger than I ever see.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m LaTricia Shorter , I’m 33 years old. I am married with a 12 year old daughter. I got in the hair industry by answering a question from my husband. He asked me what did I want to do with my life such as my career and I choose hair . I have a hair product line called Slim Naturals that’s for all types of hair..The problems I solve on regular with my clients is creating a great out look on their hair before they came in experience with 100% of great customer service.. what set me apart from others is that I honestly care about hair and not the dollar amount my clients pay me. I am most proud of in my business is that I never gave up and I kept going and didn’t let nothing the devil tried to destroy make me quit.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
When I first started putting my business together . I only had $4,000.00. I never knew in a million years I could make that amount work in building my business together. I had strict budget and I used what I had for the first couple of years so that I can still make life work for me . After I hit the 5th year I revamp my business with a lil spice up and was able to hire people to do the job this go around instead of me .
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was you can’t bring everyone with you . Everyone has a story and theirs may not be for you at the moment . You can want something so much for someone but it may not be there time. Understand if you are trying to build someone up with you , you have to draw a line and not do as much for people if they ain’t putting in as much as you .
