We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Latrice Madison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Latrice, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?

I started my career in 2009 when I first joined the Dallas police department as police officer. My tenure as cop was 11 year. As a child I always made things. As a child I wanted to be a Dentist, I won the science fair twice from making an invention I called, “ the toothbrush 2000”when I was in the 3rd and 4th grade. I stareted doing hair at 10 years old, my mother taught me and I made money throughout high school by doing everyone’s hair. From adults to children while in grade school. Adding to that I made hair concoctions, face creams and other things while in grade school and people would sale me out. This was before the days of social media entrepreneurs. In 2018 I made what is now domestically and international know as “Kitty Candy” personal care products. I look back and I think, it was always my path to create and help others.
Looking back on my youth, Even as a becoming a police officer at 21 years old to now transitioning into a full time business owner, it was always my passion to serve people in a meaningful way.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Transitioning from a full time career to a business owner was frightening. I always depending on a corporation for a means of income. I started my business while still working full time as a police officer. I knew it was time to leave and resign when I started getting 10 or more orders a day and i tripled my salary in 4 months. The discipline I learn as an officer taught me resilience and til this day I am able to handle situations gracefully with the utmost morality in business. With those traits you are able to properly serve and maintain customers.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your firm or practice?

I started my business with about $2500 of my savings. Most of the start up fee was on a packaging and advertising. I built my website and work hard on designs that were appealing to the eye. I did not use any outside sources because I didn’t want to accrue debt in the beginning.
