We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Latria Keon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Latria, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
Without question, both my parents are my hero. My mother taught me to have a servant’s heart and to always give back through time and talents; Parker’s is her namesake. My father consistently showed me the importance of having a solid work ethic and saving money. Because of their teachings, I always work to go above and beyond for my clients.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur and have a knack for planning parties. While in high school, I would secure the venue, and DJ, hire security, create a flyer to promote events, and charge people to attend. As that passion continued to grow, the level of each party became more and more over the top. I pride myself in combing over the fine details that result in a flawlessly executed event.
When my partner Glenda and I chose to open our venue, the goal was to be a customer-focused business and to provide a space for minorities to feel welcomed. Daily, I strive to exceed our client’s expectations and work to break the stigma that all black-owned companies have poor customer service.
During the global pandemic, when the event industry struggled with cancelations and refused to reimburse clients, I chose to refund the money. As a company, we knew this was a considerable risk, but we also believed that we would get back the funds we repaid plus more, and we have. We also retained clients from this practice and gained life-long friends.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
We have the best clients who have been excellent at referring people. We also work with local vendors regularly who also send new clients our way.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Reliability and flexibility are essential in the event industry. I ensure we have the venue clean and correctly set up for each event and address any challenges immediately. Our clients notice this and are thankful and happy to share their positive experiences with others.
