Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Latrell Floyd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Latrell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I came up with my company Talks With Trell by picking a friend’s brain. Growing up I was always a fan of talk shows and interesting facts. I was always the kid who would come up to people and be like, “Hey did you know?” I also have my Bachelors in Communication Studies and my second Masters in Communication so the name was destined to be. Talking is a huge part of not only my personal brand or my professional job, but its always been a part of me. I was always known as the kid who talks too much (ask my teachers).
Latrell, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well to those who don’t know me, my name is Latrell but I go by Trell. I am a HR & Communications Professional and a Content Creator. I got into the communications/ content industry at a young age. I have always had a passion for communications which is why I have two degrees in Communication. I got into social media while in college and I basically learned the ins and outs of it. During the pandemic, much like everyone else I was bored and instead of doing nothing I utilized my skills into a more streamlined avenue and from there ‘Talks With Trell’ was born.
It takes a lot of discipline because not only do I have to stay on daily trends, I have to create content my audience will like and want to engage in. It is basically its own job, but I enjoy it so much. It’s allowed for me to be more creative. What sets me apart from others is I started out with nothing and I build my brand up from a simple idea.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A story that illustrates my resilience would be watching my Grandma struggle. Back in 2003 she suffered from 3 strokes and an aneurysm which left her paralyzed on her left side. She was told she would have to live in a nursing home for the rest of her life and wouldn’t have a normal life. She proved so many doctors wrong. Not only did she live on her own, she cooked, got from point A to point B, and most importantly she smiled and laughed. She passed away in 2016 but until that point I watched how she was able to smile through adversity. Her resilience is the reason why I will always strive to be the very best that I can and NEVER take no for an answer when it comes to accomplishing my goals.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is watching my art (content) connect with people. Seeing big outlets such as The Shade Room and BET Network share my content makes everything that I am doing worth it. It inspires me to keep going because I know this is just the beginning for me.
