Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Latrell Carter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Latrell, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
Diving into content creation is like stepping into uncharted territory; there’s a whole world of challenges waiting for you, some of them being ones you ever even thought about.
Being a solo act in my podcasting venture brought its own set of hurdles. Picture this: a week dedicated solely to just learning how to get around in editing software, dealing with my previous studio’s inability to have the set ready on time, and facing mishaps like being double booked. It’s been a rollercoaster of problem-solving at every corner.
One instance that stands out is when I was editing an interview, and the color among the three cameras were drastically different. As soon as I uploaded the clips into premiere pro, I felt discouraged but I knew deep down that it was yet another challenge that I would overcome and learn from. Instead of only using the wide angle shot, I made the tough decision to release the audio first, holding off on the video. Juggling a full-time job and school, I dedicated two weeks to unraveling the intricacies of color correction, determined to make that video the best possible product I could.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For work I am an Electrical Engineer but outside of work I am a Podcaster. I help young adults engineer a strong foundation for a resilient life through personal finance, personal development, and skills that elevate them through their current situation. I got into podcasting because I used to have deep and insightful conversations with a friend almost on a daily basis when we worked together and we both felt like more of our peers should also have a better understanding of the topics we were speaking on. That lead to us starting the podcast together a couple of weeks afterwards.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I utilize Notion.so for keeping everything related to the podcast in one place. From the mission statement to the notes for every episode. It is all kept in one place and makes it a lot easier to search for things if I forgot what episode I may have said it in.
I also utilize descript because it is great for editing my reels. Once I have all the clips I want to use for reels, I import them into descript, apply the reel template I created, and instantly I have reels with a title and captions. The only thing I have to do from there is change the title and make sure the captions are correct.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
With so much information available in the world, there’s a universal truth: people don’t know what they don’t know. Numerous individuals have approached me, expressing gratitude for introducing them to financial accounts or investment strategies they never even knew existed. That revelation fueled my mission – to present valuable information, innovative ideas, and effective strategies directly to my audience. The goal? Empower them to make informed decisions about whether these insights could enhance their lives.
It’s not about dictating that my audience adopt every piece of advice I share. Instead, it’s about providing them with the opportunity to explore and decide for themselves if the information holds value for their unique situations. I see my role as a facilitator, guiding them through the landscape of young adulthood, offering a wealth of options and allowing them to choose the paths that align with their goals and aspirations.
