We were lucky to catch up with Latoya Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Latoya, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I left the salon chair after 13 years this year in June. Going into the clothing industry and my artistry. Is something alive always loved.
It’s a risk because I saw my clientele plummet. People just can’t afford certain services any longer due to the changes in their families and or careers so I had to make a change for mine. I stopped pretending like it was working when indeed a transition needed to be made because I was l getting bored. It had to make sense. Clothing makes sense because you cannot go through life unclothed. Going into full entrepreneurial mode with your family takes work but team work. Everyone has to be on board. Now I can, not only fully express my true self and true artistic identity but now I do not have to depend on others to clothe my family. It’s fun and inspiring.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
. I am a Raleigh NC native and have been in the field of beauty for 13 plus years. I’ve worked the salon chair most of those years. I’ve traveled up and down the east coast. I’d love to visit the west coast.
My brand originally formed as La’Serein HMP Studios. Then to Latuckett Hair Makeup Photography.
Changed again to T ’ Aura’s Beauty.
Over the coarse of my salon years I’ve provided cuts, color services,
Blowouts, braids, etc.
It takes a wealth of discipline to get up and get it done. It relies on you and no one else.
You have to call the shots. You also cannot be afraid to talk to people. No matter who they are.
I’ve always gravitated to nature and to have a clothing brand that is eco friendly and eco conscious is something that aligns with my values.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
NFT’s are the future. They are the now.
They are a digital protected way of protect original art, ideas, content, intellectual property etc.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to go to Japan and experience the different cultures and scenery.
