We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Latoya Sherice a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Latoya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
A defining moment for me was being led to start therapy for the first time during a toxic work experience. I was going through a lot personally, as a new first time mom but it was work that tipped the scale for me. As difficult as it was to experience, it helped me seek the help that I needed to start addressing issues in my life, including past relationships. It was a blessing in disguise.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the host of A Woman of Her Word podcast, an online community that centers on providing tools, tips, and strategies for addressing the millennial issues that MATTER from a feminist and faith based perspective. I host series that support my audience as they navigate issues in life, love, faith and everything in between. I am especially proud of being able to bring issues like navigating singleness, parenting, solo travel, and motherhood for young adult audiences. My authenticity, creativity, and sense of humor sets me apart. We all have unique gifts and I believe my gifts of encouragement, and relatability to my guests and audience makes the show so conversational and inviting, it is a blessing.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think Resilience has been emblazoned like a watermark along my life’s chapters. To connect my introductory experience in therapy, to present day- it laid the foundation and solidified my desire to pursue Counseling at the doctoral level. The life changing impact it had on me as young single millennial mom and employee in the corporate space made me recognize how needed therapists are as there are a myriad of issues that we are trying to navigate and overcome. Podcasting has been an incredible space to make a global impact as I work to get licensed to work with women individually and collectively in group settings.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Other than training and our knowledge base, I think inner healing, self love, and recognizing our worth is so helpful to succeeding in the counseling space as well as in business. When we heal, we attract healthier relationships and partnerships. Self love is important because it helps us to honor ourselves and our choices/decisions follow suit. Lastly, recognizing our worth helps us to say no to anything that minimizes our greatness, potential, and the magic that we bring in the rooms we enter, in addition to knowing when to say “no” and walking away when our values are not aligned.
