Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Latoya Shelby. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Latoya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
I love to show vendors that I appreciate them for entrusting in me to help them with ways of networking their brand. Randomly for events I would reach out to business owners and offer them discounted or free vendor spaces to show my appreciation. I would also hold different raffles or giveaways for different items to help gain new customers for their business. I feel that it is very important to show vendors and customers you appreciate them in any way you can. When it comes to my customers I would have different types of affordable sales to meet their budgets.

Latoya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Who is Latoya Shelby? She is a wife and a mom of 3 beautiful girls Katelynn, Kaydenn, and Ke’Miya. I am also an At- Risk Coordinator, event host, and a community advocate, and last but not least a member of the jeep community (Jeep_Junkiez).
I’m initially from Yazoo City, Mississippi which your success depended upon who you know or who you are, which made it harder for those who wasn’t known. As a child I was taught to work for whatever I wanted or needed. I was only 14 years old when I landed my first job. I was on a softball team, but our coach Herman Leach also taught us nothing will be given to you for free not even our uniforms. We paid for everything. Having those things to be instilled in me as a child helps me today knowing that nothing will be handed to me. My passion for my business also sets me aside from others being that I have a very unique mind frame and I will also think outside the box to make any and everything I do seem different. I’m very passionate about anything I do, so when things don’t go as planned, I’m always ready to activate my Plan B. I love to participate with anything that’s pertaining to helping the community.
I recently received an Honorary Award at Arlington Merch & Mix hosted by Keisha Sanchez. I was honored to be recognized for the contributions I have dedicated to the community.
I am most proud of the woman I have became over the years. When I take a look back at younger me and I would have never guessed that I would be in the position I am today. Dedication and hard work definitely paid off. I am proud of me.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to learn in business is that ALL BUSINESS ISN’T GOOD BUSINESS!
Without going to deep into details I would most definitely say be careful with who you conduct business with. Everyone does not have your best interest at heart. Be very selective with ideas and goals you set for your business when speaking with others.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience by constantly promoting my business everyday multiple times a day. When you promote your business, you will reach someone different every time. When someone shares your business, you will reach someone different every time. You must constantly put your business in the audience face, so that they never forget who you are. I promote my business on every social media platform, and it helps my business grow tremendously.
