We were lucky to catch up with Latoya Marsh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Latoya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
Currently, I manage my own social media accounts @toyamarsh on Instagram and TikTok, which allowed me to build my personal brand of about 7000+ combined. I have been primarily taking up space in the beauty and lifestyle side niche as a content creator on both platforms and have been able to work with brands like Laura Mercier, Morphe, Milani, and most recently Rare Beauty. I also will be managing my soon-to-launch digital marketing agency Socialsoule, which is a digital marketing agency specializing in social media and influencer marketing, driven to strategically transform brands. We go beyond traditional media and paid advertising, by emerging ourselves into cultural conversations with tactical strategies designed to be both creative and measurable, and can be found on Instagram, Tik Tok, and LinkedIn @Socialsoule.

Latoya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! I am Latoya and I am a self-described digital marketing enthusiast who is pursuing a bachelor’s in business marketing. I enjoy the creative process of cultivating a story for a brand. I am here to take up space in this ever-changing digital marketing world we live in today.
I started off as a fan, watching YouTube videos of some of my favorite influencers at the age of 12 years old. Coming home from school and turning on Jackie Aina and watching her latest makeup tutorial was the highlight of my day and was when I developed a passion for makeup. I started creating my own makeup videos when I was 17 years old and have invested a lot of time and money into developing my craft as an artist, and that has translated into me being able to work with some of the top brands in the beauty industry such as Rare Beauty, Laura Mercier, Riley Rose and so many more.
I worked as a makeup artist for about 3 years which gave me the opportunity to work with and develop so many long-term relationships with my clients, I have also developed a list of a few celebrity clients that I have gotten the chance to work with over the year such as Tommie from Love and Hip-Hop: Atlanta and Three-time Emmy winner Dhomonique Murphy, who I’m grateful to have worked with all amazing people.
I am currently at the age of 23 finishing up my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing and I’m looking forward to graduating next Fall 2023. I plan on embarking on a new journey as a marketing specialist in the near future and to launch my own social media marketing agency Socialsoule, which I’m planning on launch this coming Spring 2023 and can be found @socialsoule on Instagram, Tik Tok, and LinkedIn.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Throughout my journey as a makeup artist, I began to lose the drive and passion that I once had and started to question whether or not I saw myself doing makeup long-term. I had to be honest with myself, and I honestly didn’t see myself doing that forever, so I decided to finish up my degree and found back my spark. I love creating, content, writing, and any creativity I love it and so I thought marketing best suited me because it’s never the same thing every day especially when it comes to social media marketing. I love it, and I’m glad that I decided to go back to school, and I know my grandma who recently passed is happy I did as well because she always wanted me to finish.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my being creative is being able to be my authentic self without really thinking about what others have to say. I love that the content I create can resonate with so many other girls that look like me. sometime I get messages from girls expressing how I’ve made them feel confident and how my videos have helped them with any of their makeup problems so in a way I’m helping people without even knowing it just by doing what I love and being creative.
