Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Latoya Gregg. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Latoya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
By trade I am a nurse. I love what I do and I am good at it. I get satisfaction by providing care for my patients and helping them to live they way they want to live. However, For the last 5 years I craved more but didn’t know what it was. Some things were very clear. I wanted to work on my terms. I wanted to make a lot of money for traveling and explore the world and all it has to offer. I want to initiate generational wealth for my family and others throughout the community. I want to motivate, mentor, and help others achieve their goals, no matter what they are. Covid showed me how. When the pandemic hit my world flipped and turned upside down. I was mentally, physically and emotionally drained. I felt like I had nothing to give, so I leaned on an old skill to lift my spirits. I made a candle. Halfway through I felt so much better. It was at this moment I realized that I had the power to help others in the same way. I firmly believe things that manipulate your senses heavily influence your mood as well as your well being. Then that became my mission. To build an empire by providing stress relief via aroma therapy with fragrant room enhancers as well as skin care products. The processes over the last two years have taught me so many things about myself as well as my clients. I get to combine my trade with my business mixed with a true passion. Now that’s true love.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a creator. I love arts, music, crafts, and creativity. Those special unique things also works as a way to bind us all together. It’s a way to connect to my clients and find common ground. I start by finding out what they like and don’t like in fragrances. What colors they see when they smell a fragrance ( this may sound weird, but this is true to most). I use those colors at times to color my candles. I find out What their go to scent choice would be (ie sweet, fruity, masculine, woodsy), or What type of environment they like set on a day to day basis. For me I found that the first step in learning them is by connecting to my fragrances myself. I can not help someone if I lack the connection. There is not one fragrance that I sell that I do not connect with on some level. This is key for me to help my clients and build my brand. It’s my personal touch.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I do manufacture my own products. I knew some simple things, but I didn’t know how to make a business out of it. I didn’t even know anyone that had a business like mine. Honestly I started off like many of us. I used YouTube university. After I got the basics down, I researched what I needed to run my business in my state. I then looked up companies that supply things that I needed to get started. I purchased sample sizes of things and tested until I was ready for public feedback. I also purchased how to books for candle, soap, body care, and how to run a business. I then used the feedback from my initial products to help me make the products I know people would love. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is your brand, your vision. Tweaking things to make a better product is one thing, changing it to fit the masses is another. This goes for labeling, logo, color choices, etc. I love feedback, however, if it doesn’t meet the vision I have for my company, then I document the advice just in case I need it in the future. I do this because some knowledge isn’t for where you are, it’s for where your going.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
I sell my products on multiple platforms, such as, Amazon, Etsy, Facebook marketplace, instagram, my website, and face to face events.
