We recently connected with LaToya Drish and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, LaToya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I believe the biggest risk was doubting myself. Before I started Simplicity, I had daily anxiety due to overthinking situations that hadn’t even happen. I would literally, talk myself out of the idea of starting a company within 30 minutes for over a month! I kept fighting with the ideal of losing. That was until I realized why I was doing this, who I was doing this for, and how I was doing it. We are our biggest enemy sometimes. Since starting Simplicity, I have an wide amount of love and confirmation and it has and is the best feeling ever. Sometimes things don’t go the way I want, but it’s part of the package. I took a lot of losses until I got my first WIN and it was all worth it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
So I am a wife, a mom, and entrepreneur who loves beauty! I initially started Simplicity due to wanting to share the feeling, I had found, of self-confidence. Another reason was because it was just hard to make it to the nail salon with having 3 active children, a full-time job, and side jobs. Let’s not mention having to remove my nails after 3 to 4 days because I had to do hair, or etc. It became a waste of money! I started watching YouTube to learn how to do my own nails and learned so much more! I realized I loved doing the creating part, so I just went with it.
I’m most proud that Simplicity show’s individuals that beauty is in everything you do. I want my nail sets to be seen as playful but grown with the wide variety of colorful designs to luxury style types. I want my lip products to show our individualities by mixing them up and applying them in many different ways.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is thinking it is easy being a business owner. It most certainly is not. I had to learn that some days your sales will be high, some days you won’t have any sales. Sometimes weeks. You have to show up even when no one shows up to support you. It’s not always going to produce the results you want. You not going to always have the likes or comments on social media. Even with all this and more, you still have to give your all and be patient.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2021, I had a family death that shook me up pretty bad. This was a point in my life where I just lost my passion for business and was just stuck in a everyday loop of go to work, cook, clean, sleep, repeat. To be honest, I didn’t have the faith, I once did in myself to keep Simplicity up. I couldn’t find the energy to create or even make a post for social media. I had literally just given up. Within 1 year, I had nothing. It took a lot of prayer, manifesting, hard work, sleepless night, and a support system to help re-launch Simplicity. My Wife is so amazing though as she pushed me daily and placed nothing but positive energy and spoke positive words into me. She believed in me even I didn’t believe in myself.
